In the 1980s, Wesselmann became interested in cutting metal to create drawings, utilizing negative space and thin lines of metal to create a composition. Initially created from hand-cut aluminum, Wesselmann later researched and helped to develop the first laser cutting devices for artistic use. The present lot is a work created from these innovations, blending the traditional aesthetic of drawing with brand-new technology to create a look all Wesselmann's own.
