Campbell's route took him from Scotland to St John's, New Brunswick, Frederick Town, Quebec, Montreal, Kingston, Niagara, Grand River, Genesee County, the Mohawk Valley, Albany, and down the Hudson to New York and New Jersey. He includes an account of his guide, David Ramsay, captured by Indians, an account of St. Clair's defeat, his own conversations with Captain Brant, and reflections on the Confederate Indians "with regard to their throwing off their allegiance to the mother country, and their falling into the hands of the federal states" (Lande).
