[2], xvi, 358; [2], viii, 374 pp. With frontispiece etchings by J. Leitter; wood-engraved vignettes on the title-pages; 7 wood engravings in the text. 21.5x13.5 cm. (8½x5¼"), later full purple morocco tooled in gilt and blind on the covers, spines elaborately tooled in gilt, raised bands, gilt inner dentelles, all edges gilt, fore edge paintings. First Edition. Each of the two decoratively-bound volumes with a beautiful fore edge painting by an unidentified artist. Each showing a turn-of-the-century town square with delicately rendered figures, some strolling, some in horse-drawn carriages. Lot Amendments Condition: Volume 1 rear cover detached, lightly rubbed extremities; Volume 1 lacks half title; foxing to frontispieces and (lighter) to title pages, else internally near fine; very good.
