Très rare cheval en porcelaine blanche, Meissen, circa 1938, E.A A very rare Meissen large white model of a horse, circa 1928Artist's example Modelled by Max Esser with its head upraised, on a wavy-edged base on a rectangular pedestal, 64cm high; 38cm across, crossed swords mark with dot between the tips to edge of base and pedestal, signed on edge of base 'M. Esser 1928', incised model number A.1158 and impressed 23 (small firing haircrack to base of drapery support, two small chips to edge of drapery)FootnotesProvenance: Max Esser (1885-1945); Acquired directly from the Estate of the artist Literature: Rafael 2014, ill. 1 Esser completed the clay model of this horse in March 1927 and the plaster cast the following month. The Meissen manufactory purchased this and the other large model of a horse for RM 3,100 each. Esser reworked the plaster model in Berlin between May and August and delivered the finished model to Meissen in October. Due to the technical difficulties in producing such a large model, only a single example of this model was sold by 1933 and five more by 1937. Only one other example of this model is recorded in the Grassi-Museum in Leipzig.
