However, the matter of assignments in the Army and Navy are purely administrative matters over which I have no control. Any assistance that I give must be done in a most diplomatic manner, so as not to do the boy more harm than good. The army greatly resents what they call Congressional interference, as they rightly should..." Truman, who had replaced Henry Wallace as Roosevelt's running-mate, served as Vice-President from 20 January 1941 until 12 April 1945, and his letters as Vice-President are distinctly uncommon.
