including Little Screech Owl from John James Audubon's Birds of America (2nd Royal Octavo Edition, published in 1856, volume 14, plate 40), hand-colored lithograph portraying three screech owls perched on a pine branch. Print is in a newer frame and includes pp. 147-150 of volume 14 of the 1856 edition of the Royal Octavo with the description of the screech owl; approx. 10" high x 6" wide (w/o frame); 13.75" high x 8.75" wide (w/frame). AND Pic de Virginie, a hand-colored copperplate engraving on laid paper from Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux by Francois Nicolas Martinet (ca 1725-ca 1804), L'Imprimerie Royale, Paris: 1770-86. Martinet's prints are often considered the most important ornithological set produced in 18th-century France; 9" high x 7" wide (image); 17.75" high x 13.5" wide (w/frame). Provenance:Ex Collection Robert and Marge Piper Condition:Minor toning to Audubon print, Martinet clean with plate mark still visible, not examined out of frames; both VG.
