IRAN, 17TH CENTURY
TWO NASTA'LIQ CALLIGRAPHIC PANELS IRAN, 17TH CENTURY Persian manuscript on paper, one folio with 4ll. of elegant nasta'liq on gold illuminated ground, triangular panels in the upper and lower corners with smaller nasta'liq in clouds reserved against gold ground, the lower panel with the signature of Muhammad Shafi'a, laid down between polychrome rules and minor borders, one with floral illumination on navy ground, on wide gold margins decorated with polychrome floral sprays; the second folio with 5ll. of black nasta'liq surrounded by gold floral sprays in clouds reserved against gold and polychrome floral ground, the final line with signature of Muhammad Qasim in smaller nasta'liq below, laid down between polychrome rules and minor gold-speckled borders on wide blue margins with a gold medallion lattice filled with flowerheads and arabesques, both panels laid down on card, minor staining and scuffing Largest folio 18 1/8 x 11¾in.
