TWO RARE JADE MASK-CARVED PLAQUES LATE NEOLITHIC PERIOD/EARLY SHANG DYNASTY, 2500-1500 BC One of pale grey-green color, in the shape of a monster face shown in profile, each side carved with an eye below a striated headdress, and a fanged mouth which continues over the narrow edge, with a small circular hole in the ear; the other the bottom of a plaque carved in grooved lines on one side with the fanged mouth, nose and pierced ears of a monster face, the stone now opaque and of taupe and ivory color 1 3/8 in. (3.5 cm.) high and 2¼ in. (15.7 cm.) across (2)
