Former President Tyler replies to an inquiry: "Your letter of the 23 Inst. is before me, and in reply I have to say that I have no recollection of such a person as Mr. John Prescott and not the slightest remembrance of having given him a certificate of character corresponding with the copy which you have embodied in your letter now before me," and in a postscript adds, "If I ever knew Mr. Prescott I have most strangely forgotten him."
