Paris, Alcan-Lévy, 1889 8vo (foxing). Contemp. vellum, gilt-orn. red morocco frame on covers with red ruled framework with gilt angular fleurons, gilt coat of arms on front cover, gilt-ruled flat spine, a.e.g. (very sl. rubbed). First edition relating the travel in 1874 of Baron of Tefé (1837-1931) and his companions on the Javary River at the end of which they set the boundary marker between Peru and Brazil. Tefé was the only survivor of the expedition. Extracted from the Brazilian explorer's journal. Enriched with an orig. photo of Tefé protected with a tissue guard. Prov. Dedication of the Baron of Tefé in French to the King Umberto I, "hommages très respectueux" (ms. entry dated Rome 28-3-1892). - Presentation copy to Umberto I (supralibros). - Vittorio Emmanuele III (label with shelf mark and stamp).
