Postal envelope with the printed names of the Mercury astronauts, several of whom visited the United Nations for celebrations related to John Glenn's orbital flight. Postmarked at the United Nations building in New York on March 2, 1962. The envelope is displayed between paragraphs of a Typed Letter Signed by THOMAS STAFFORD. THOMAS P. STAFFORD'S provenance letter reads, in part: "The Mercury envelope displayed below is from my personal collection. The envelope was postmarked the day several of the Mercury astronauts visited the United Nations building in New York City—March 2, 1962.... I was selected to fly the first Gemini flight with Alan Shepard, but an inner ear disorder prevented Al from flying space missions until his Apollo 14 flight in 1971. I did fly my first space mission with Wally Schirra on the Gemini 6 mission during December 1965."
