NASA An underwater view of the recovery of the Mercury Atlas 4 spacecraft 166 miles east of Bermuda. 13 September 1961 Vintage chromogenic print, 35 x 28.5 cm (14 x 11¼ ), image 34 x 27 cm (13¼ x 10½), with A KODAK PAPER watermarks on verso Footnotes: The unmanned Mercury - Atlas 4 spacecraft was the first Mercury spacecraft to orbit the Earth. This underwater view shows (from the bottom) the floatation collar, the deployed landing bag and the heat shield. The leg and flipper of the US Navy frogman can also be seen. Condition Report: Light pencil annotation on verso. Some light surface paper loss, likely from previous mounting, along the edges on verso. Front not affected.
