Beschreibung:

.54 caliber, 33" barrel, browned finish, case hardened lock, brass furniture with two barrel bands, walnut stock. Standard Harpers Ferry lock markings, dated 1849 at the tail, with the matching date on the tang. Barrel with standard Harpers Ferry inspection and proof marks, including AW/P inspection. Patchbox with block JHK inspection mark, with the same inspection on the stock flat. Buttplate not marked "US", as is appropriate for Harpers Ferry produced "Mississippi" rifles. Original fixed rear sight and brass front sight blade, both sling swivels, original ramrod. A very nice example of an unaltered US M-1841 Rifle by Harpers Ferry in the original .54 caliber, fixed sight configuration. Most of these guns were subsequently modified during the mid-1850s to accept a saber bayonet, with long-range rear sights added. Many were additionally reamed up to .58 caliber. Finding an unmodified Harpers Ferry "Mississippi" in this level of preservation is extremely difficult. Condition: Fine. Retains much of the original arsenal brown on the barrel, which is thinning and shows some light pitting around the breech. All marks remains clear and legible. Lock with faint traces of case color. Lock mechanically functional, very good bore. Stock with assorted bumps, dings and handling marks, and several bruises on the bottom, behind the lower band. Upper swivel may be a very old replacement.
