VITAL, Hayyim (Safed; 1542-1620). Zohar ha-Raki'a (based on his commentary on the Zohar, in the redaction of Jacob Zemah, and two other texts). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [Eastern Europe, 17th-18th century] 4 o (205 x 160 mm). 370 leaves, with partial old Hebrew and partial modern lead pencil foliation. Brown ink. Ashkenazic semi-cursive script. Probably by the same scribe who copied Neubauer nos. 65, 75, 77, 88, 100 and 103 (lots 146, 134, 137, 73, 110 and 140). With printed architectural border in the style of the plates used by the Amsterdam printer Joseph Athias, pasted onto the paper to decorate the title on fol. 203r. (First part of the manuscript browned, and with some ink corrosion, otherwise excellent condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled red morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front. CONTENTS: I. Fols. 1r-153v: Zohar ha-Raki'a . II. Fols. 154r-197v: Extracts from Nof Ets Chayyim , including commentaries by Isaac Luria and Hayyim Vital. Fols. 198r-202v: blank. III. Fols. 204r-369v: Extracts from the long commentary on the Zohar by Moses ben Mordecai Zacuto. Fols. 370rv: blank. According to the title-page these commentaries were copied from the notes entered in the margins of a printed Zohar owned by the Kabbalist, Abraham [b. Michael Raphael] Rovigo. Similar to the Korets 1785 edition (Vinograd, Thesaurus , p. 600, no. 44). PROVENANCE: Daniel Itzig (stamped).
