VOLTAIRE, Marie François Arouet de (1694-1778). La Henriade, nouvelle édition. Paris: Barbou for la veuve Duchesne, Saillant and others, [1769]-1770. 2 volumes, 8° (182 x 114mm). Engraved frontispiece, title, 10 plates and 10 headpieces, all in vol.I, by De Longueil after Eisen. (Some light spotting or browning.) Contemporary red morocco gilt, black morocco lettering-pieces, g.e (some discolouration to upper cover of vol.II). Provenance : Unidentified monogrammed red morocco book label. A fine set. Of this edition, Voltaire wrote in a letter to Eisen: "I begin to believe, Sir, that La Henriade will reach posterity when I see the prints with which you have embellished it." Cohen-de Ricci 1026; Ray French 30. (2)
