The consignor has independently obtained a letter of authenticity from PSA that will accompany the lot. A very rare composition celebrating the American victory at the Battle of New Orleans. Rare Book Hub records only a single copy (from the library of Simon J. Shwartz of New Orleans, sold at Anderson Galleries, 9 November 1926, lot 383), and WorldCat locates copies only at Cornell University and the Library of Congress. Philippe Laroque dedicated his composition "to the Fair Sex of America." He provides helpful bilingual commentary of the action, which is reflected in the music: "the firing begins on our left"; "Death of General Pakenham"; "Surprise and consternation among the enemy"; and "The signal of Victory" among them.
