WIELAND, Christoph Martin (1733-1813). Autograph letter signed ('Wieland') to the publisher and patron Friedrich Justin Bertuch, Weimar, 20 October 1811, 1½ pages, 8vo , integral address leaf, remnant of seal (seal tear).
WIELAND, Christoph Martin (1733-1813). Autograph letter signed ('Wieland') to the publisher and patron Friedrich Justin Bertuch, Weimar, 20 October 1811, 1½ pages, 8vo , integral address leaf, remnant of seal (seal tear). Wieland had first moved to Weimar in the early 1770s as tutor to the children of Anna Amalia, Duchess of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, and he founded the influential literary journal Der teutsche Merkur there in 1773. His residence there, which lasted until his death, was a period of rich literary productivity, particularly in his characteristic poetic romances.
