[1 December 1795], one page, 8vo , integral address panel, remnant of seal (numbering at upper margin). About the baptism of a son of Kammerrat Ridel, at which Goethe is to be a godfather: Goethe promises to be present in formal dress ('Um drey Uhr werde ich mich also, ohngefähr in der Gestalt wie man nach Hofe geht, zur heil. Handlung tragen lassen'), and lists his proposed gifts to the various parties ('Was die Geschencke betrift, so werde ich der von Ihnen angezeigten Gradation folgen: der Lieberinn einen Laubth[aler] dem Kirchner einen Cour[ant]th[aler] dem Andres einen Gulden der Wartfrau einen halben Laubth[aler]'). The mother of the child to whom Goethe was to stand godfather was Amalie Buff, the sister of Charlotte Buff who was the model for the Charlotte of Werther .
