Manuscript explanation notes: "...he was continually travelling on the Rail Road between Huntsville Ala. & Nashville Tenn. in charge of Military Mail." Approved and signed by "W.T. Sherman," Maj. Gen. Sherman had succeeded Grant as commander of the western theater by this point. May 1864 marked the beginning of the Atlanta Campaign, and around the 10th they were in the vicinity of Rocky Face Ridge and Resaca. Condition: Holes punched across lower fold, folds as expected. Minor scuffing along verso of folds, with separations beginning at same.
