WINDS OF CHANGE and KING BEE No. 1: Lot of Three Tabloids with R. Crumb Art Author: Place: Publisher: Date: Description: Three large tabloid newspapers printed on newsprint, no glossy covers, as issued. Generally VF or better, folded horizontally in the manner of tabloid papers, "Winds of Change" is off-white with edges toning, "King Bee" is white. Provenance: From the Collection of Ron Turner, Publisher of Last Gasp. Lot comprises two issues of Winds of Change (Vol. II, Nos. 6 & 7), both printed in Yolo County, CA, December to February, 1981, and King Bee No. 1, published by Apex Novelties, 1969. All three appear uncirculated and unread. Uncommon in such a splendid state of preservation. Both issues feature Crumb covers and occasional vignettes. Winds of Change, a progressive news sheet of the early Reagan era, was founded by Martin Barnes and R. Crumb. King Bee was an innovative underground tabloid published in an edition of approximately 1000 copies and never reprinted since. Besides an R. Crumb cover, it features work by Rick Griffin Victor Moscoso Peter Max and some of S. Clay Wilson's most outré cartoons. A limited edition of 100 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues are available. Over 200 pages, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcovers $40, dust-jacketed hardcover with limitation plate $200. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com or visit: https://www.pbagalleries.com/content/comics/. R. Crumb says, "I found [PBA's catalogue] so interesting that I am saving it for the texts that accompany the comics which were put up for auction. This is some of the best commentary I’ve yet seen on the quality of the content of comic books. I especially enjoyed the reviews of the post-war horror comics. Great. Priceless." Consignments welcome for PBA's Spring 2021 Comic Book sale. Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age and Silver Age comics, original art and ephemera sought. Send inquiries to ivan@pbagalleries.com.
