WRIGHT, WILBUR. Some Aeronautical Experiments. [In: Annual Report of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution ... For the Year Ending June 30, 1902.] Washington: Government Printing Office, 1903. [2], 121-148 pp. 8 photographic illustrations on 2 plates. 9 x 6 inches. Bound reusing original green cloth from another Report. Library stamps to general title and plates, binding scored. Wright's essay was first published in the Journal of the Western Society of Engineers in December 1901. He gives an account of the brothers' achievements up to that point, the most recent being the successful flights of a manned glider at the Kill Devil Hills, four miles south of Kitty Hawk, in the summer of 1901. The plates show "The 1900 Machine," "Kite Soaring," "A Bottom View," "Starting a Flight," "A High Glide," "A Low Glide," "Soaring," and "Landing." Also includes Baden-Powell's essay, Recent aeronautical progress.
