Wright's essay was first published in the Journal of the Western Society of Engineers in December 1901. He gives an account of the brothers' achievements up to that point, the most recent being the successful flights of a manned glider at the Kill Devil Hills, four miles south of Kitty Hawk, in the summer of 1901. The plates show "The 1900 Machine," "Kite Soaring," "A Bottom View," "Starting a Flight," "A High Glide," "A Low Glide," "Soaring," and "Landing." Also includes Baden-Powell's essay, Recent aeronautical progress.
