Superbly painted in bright enamels to each side of the globular body with a black-outlined leaf-shaped cartouche centered by a large, long-tailed, blue-crested, black-breasted bird, perhaps representing the mythical phoenix, and standing on blue rockwork issuing peony, the leaf cartouche with iron-red and gilt flower sprays spreading out from under its edges and all set on a grisaille cell ground, the shoulder with a thin band of iron-red and gilt leafy foliage and flowers, the matching cover with chrysanthemum and daisy and a plain bud finial.
