Bumpus, [n.d.], 8°, FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, half title inscribed to John Freeman original grey wrappers (rather soiled), with a 2pp. letter from the author, dated Seamark, Lloyd Road, Hove, 20th Dec. 1928, presenting the book to Freeman, loosely-inserted, and with 2pp. only of a separate letter tipped-in at front, which describes, partly in verse, a depressing visit to Wingate Manor, mentions his reading of Drayton's Polyalbion and then refers to the favourable admission price of "4d a head" to Matlock; The Bird-Cage , London, J. & E. Bumpus, 1926, 8°, FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, front blank inscribed to John Freeman Christmas 1926, original green cloth, dust-jacket, with a loosely-inserted 2pp. letter from the author to Freeman, dated 15 Bigwood Avenue, Hove, 12 Dec. 1906, presenting the book but beginning with the news of Agatha Christie's reappearance: "No doubt you were infinitely relieved this morning, as I was, by the good news of Agatha Christie: for no living writer -- not even -- well, never mind -- could be so badly spared.
