Printed check signed ("Brigham Young") as President of the Utah Southern Rail Road Company, and counter-signed by Secretary George Swan Salt Lake City, Nevada, 31 July 1832. 1 page, oblong (84 x 205 mm), engraved in various typefaces, image of a train left margin, U.S. Internal Revenue 2-cent stamp upper left. The check for $400 is made out to the Treasurer of the Utah Southern Rail Road, and payable to M.A. Davis or bearer, for "advanced charges." Young, Joseph Smith's successor, was the first governor of Utah Territory and established the railroad to connect Salt Lake City with Latter Day Saint communities in the south. The Utah Southern Railroad was established in 1871, and was acquired by Union Pacific Railroad in 1875. Estimate $2,000-3,000
