Cotton, 28.5 x 33.75 in., hand sewn, "Battle of Cowpens" pattern flag, with 13 hand-sewn, double-applique cotton stars, including one large central star surrounded by a circle of 12 smaller stars. The fly is constructed of 13 hand-sewn stripes. Hoist end is cotton with jute rope running through hoist. Copper loops attached to each end of rope. Ca mid-to-late 19th century. Presents beautifully. Condition: Toning to white stripes and stars, with some scattered stains/spots. Few areas of slight separation near stitching, including small separation at stitching just below canton. Some fraying at lower right edge of fly.
