The Viva is a small family car produced by Vauxhall in a succession of three versions between 1963 and 1979. These were designated as the HA, HB and HC series. The Viva was introduced a year after Vauxhall's sister company Opel launched the Opel Kadett; a van version was also produced, as the Bedford HA. In the UK, the Viva's principal competitors at the time of its launch included the well-established Ford Anglia and Morris Minor. It featured the same basic engine as the HA, but enlarged to 1,159cc, but with the added weight of the larger body the final drive gearing was reduced from 3.9 to 1 to 4.1 to keep the nippy performance. The HB appeared, with wider, sleeker transatlantic-influenced `coke-bottle' styling. Under the skin was coil-sprung independent front suspension followed by a properly located live rear axle, providing a much more sophisticated ride than the contemporary Ford Escort and Cortina. Originally registered on 1 st March, 1969, this Vauxhall remained the property of the first owner until 2002. He diligently kept a log of all petrol and service records, these make quite interesting reading. Having been restored to a good standard, with photographic evidence, in recent times she currently presents in very good order throughout. Any corrosion on the body has been removed and re-fabricated where necessary and painted in the correct Pampas green; the interior is black and again in very good condition. The under bonnet area is extremely clean and has clearly had a significant amount of 'back aching' work carried out on her. Sitting proudly on a set of Rostyles and with bonnet louvers, this HB Viva has quite a sporty look to her. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate until April 2018, this Vauxhall is certainly one of the better examples.
