The 308GTB was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 and was built alongside the 308GT4, designed as a replacement for the 246 Dino. Designed by Leonardo Fiorvanti, the man who styled some of the most iconic Ferrari's including the Daytona, the new 308 was a rakish and attractive body which fused classic elements of Ferrari styling with a thoroughly modern design. For the first two years of production, the body of the308 was produced in fibreglass after which steel was used. The 308 shared a similar tube frame chassis as the original Dino and 308GT4 with four wheel double wishbone independent suspension. The engine was a V8 unit which was positioned behind the driver and was transversely mounted with double overhead camshafts and four 40DCNF Weber carburettors latterly replaced with Bosch K Jetronic mechanical fuel injection. This lefthand drive 1978 Ferrari 308GTS is the more desirable carburettor model which are now quite rare to find and are the most powerful of all the models was recently been imported from Canada where it had four owners, all of whom maintained the car to a very high standard, the last owner kept it in his private collection for the last eight years and had the car repainted in its original colour of Rosso Rubina, an elegant dark red. It comes with a good history file with a lot of invoices and on arrival to the UK, it was taken to a specialist who carried out a major service and replaced the cambelts. The original beige leather seats are in very good condition as are the matching carpets and the black targa top still has its original stowage bag. The Ferrari is supplied with the Canadian registration document, the HMRC NOVA letter which confirms that all the import duties have been paid, an UK MoT test certificate which expires in September 2015, the handbook pack containing all of the original books and papers, the original tool roll, a rare Rotor box of spare bulbs and fuses, an original inspection lamp and a file with the invoices relating to the mechanical work that has been done to the car. With only 32,150 miles on the clock the 308 is a very drivable and a car which one can easily settle into driving. This is an excellent example with the right specification which will benefit as future values rise.
