The MGB GT was introduced in October 1965 and was produced until 1980, the USA being a target market although export to the US ceased in 1974. The MGB GT was designed by famed Italian styling house Pininfarina and featured an attractive hatchback body, with front styling identical to the roadster variant that began production in 1962. The new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat and more luggage space than in the roadster. Relatively few components differed, although the MGB GT did receive different suspension springs and anti-roll bars and a different windscreen which was more easily and inexpensively serviceable. Acceleration of the GT was slightly slower than that of the roadster due to its increased weight, though handling improved due to significantly increased chassis rigidity and perhaps slightly better weight distribution. This Fast Road specification MGBGT is finished in Orange coachwork with black interior and a full length Webasto roof. Fully Restored between 1990-1992, many new body panels were fitted including inner and outer sills, fuel tank, rear wings and any corroded areas were cut out and replaced. Following the body restoration, a full bare metal re-paint was completed. The works carried out are documented in the history file along with a photographic record of the restoration. Purchased by the vendor in 2003, a very capable engineer who has developed and maintained this car fastidiously. The mechanical aspects of the car were tired and so he set about a full mechanical restoration and removed the rubber bumpers at that time. The engine has been rebuilt and uprated to a 2 litre RS unit producing 130bhp. Fitted with a fast road cam, large bore tubular exhaust manifold mated to a large bore stainless steel exhaust system. Twin electric fans are also fitted to aid cooling and braided brake pipes are fitted throughout. The Suspension has been uprated with a handling kit, uprated roll bars front and rear, front Koni dampers with negative camber front arms and uprated bushes. An aluminium bonnet is fitted with Sebring valances on the front and rear. Four point harness seat belts are also fitted in addition it has been undersealed and cavity waxed throughout. Supplied with V5 registration document and current MoT test certificate, this well sorted MG is on the button and ready to enjoy. A comprehensive history file accompanies the car with numerous parts bills and restoration documents. Described by the vendor as being 'As good underneath as it is on top,' this well sorted sportscar is ready for its next enthusiast owner to enjoy.
