The Spider nameplate originates from the English word 'speeder'; a two person open horse-carriage. The Alfa Romeo Spider 105/115 series was produced from 1966 to 1993 remaining in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes with the first three series assembled by designer Pininfarina. Originally offered as a 1750cc, 1971 saw the Spider Veloce get a new larger power plant, a 1962cc, 132bhp unit and consequently the name was changed from 1750 Spider Veloce to 2000 Spider Veloce; the 1600 Spider restarted production a year later as the Spider 1600 Junior and was visually identical to the 1300. The Spider Coda Tronca or 'Kamm Tail' refers to the original's distinctive elongated round tail being changed to a more conventional cut-off tail. This beautiful 1600 Coda Tronca, presented in Grigio Metalizato coachwork with black Tex interior, is offered in lovely condition throughout and represents great value for such a pretty Italian Spider. Originally produced on 12th June 1981 but registered on the 1st April 1982 in Germany, this example benefits from a full service history, original service manuals and, after an older restoration, has an inspection from Dekra Munich in 2013 and German TUV. We are informed that this matching numbers example with twin carburettors runs superbly and had a full service in 2014 including new brakes, suspension with bushes, new mohair hood and even new tyres. A manual drop top Italian sports car with an MoT test certificate valid until June 2016 and in fantastic condition sounds like a winning combination to us.
