The Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 Maratona was only offered within the North American market between 1983 and 1984 with only 150 units being made. The model included a more aggressive aerodynamic trim package, lightweight Speedline wheels, sunroof, wood steering wheel and gear knob, rear louvres and Carello fog lamps. All 150 cars were available in Silver with black leather trim. The cars were badged 'Maratona'. The most notable feature of the Maratona was its aerodynamic kit that was also available as a dealer fitted option on other GTV6 models. We are pleased to offer today a 1984 example of the Maratona that has recently undergone a number of upgrades. The shell has been stripped to bare metal and refinished to a high standard, the colour being changed from the original silver to Ferrari Rosso Cherry 136. The professional colour change was extensive and includes under the carpets, door shuts, boot area and engine bay. The US specification bumpers have been replaced with the European specification bumpers giving the car a cleaner and more attractive line. The original 2.5 litre engine has been replaced with an Alfa Romeo 75 Green Cloverleaf 3.0 litre unit which includes the desirable Motronic fuel injection system and ECU (Electronic Control Unit). This larger displacement power unit is believed to have only covered approximately 63,000 prior to installation. It has undergone a full service that includes a replacement cambelt as a sensible precaution. Exhaust extraction is via CSE manifolds and front and rear exhaust silencers. A bespoke set of wheels with the correct offsets have been manufactured by Team Dynamics, a specialist company run by Matt Neal of Touring Car fame; these wheels being fitted with new tyres on all four corners. Imported in 1989, this 1984 UK registered Maratona comes with an MoT test certificate valid until October 2016. On a recent test, the wonderful Alfa Romeo V6 engine made the right noises and the ventilated disc brakes pulled the car to a stop with confidence. This handsome Maratona GTV6 certainly stands out from the crowd with its red coachwork complemented by the original factory black leather and represents excellent value for money for an Alfa Romeo 3.0 litre V6 powered Grand Touring car.
