1988 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL *WITHDRAWN* Lot Number252 RegistrationMBZ 7421 Chassis NumberWDB1070462A089811 Odometer reading120,530 miles Estimate£26,000 - £30,000 Print details Send this to a friend 3 more images Includes cherished plate Large history file DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FROM THE AUCTION The iconic R107 Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster and SLC Coupé became so successful in the 1970's and 80's that it became their second longest production run surpassed only by the G-Class 4x4. Originally introduced in 1971 in 350 SL guise with a 3.5 litre V8 engine, it spawned some eight further engine derivatives and numerous options to extend the customers’ desire for the wonderful roadster until 1989. While the C107 or SLC enjoyed a brief but relatively successful stint in rallying, the Roadster was always intended for luxurious top down motoring and as such, attracted celebrity ownership and a host of film and television appearances. Offering 197bhp and a smooth automatic gearbox with a top speed in excess of 130mph, imagine cruising along French boulevards or through Beverley Hills and you will understand the target audience for this iconic SL Roadster. Originally registered in August 1988, this Mercedes-Benz 500 SL R107 series benefitted from a full cosmetic restoration in 2018 which included repainting the bodywork, retrimming the interior and fitting a new soft top hood. The results are the stunning car here today with striking black paintwork and contrasting grey leather trim. The looks are complemented by a comprehensive service file which includes a service book with 18 dealer stamps, various bills and receipts, a drivers wallet and book pack. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and a fresh MoT test certificate, this Mercedes is certainly worth a look given the expenditure it has received.
