1990 Jaguar Sovereign (4.0 litre) Lot Number244 RegistrationG107 ECS Chassis NumberSAJJHAL03AA612259 Engine Number9EPCMA116750 Odometer reading33,250 miles Estimate£11,000 - £15,000 Print details Send this to a friend Only one owner Just 33250 miles from new Very good history Officially unveiled on 8th October 1986, the XJ40 was an all-new redesign of the XJ to replace the Series III, although the two model ranges were sold concurrently until the Series III was discontinued in 1992. The XJ40 used the Jaguar independent rear suspension arrangement and featured several technological enhancements such as an electronic instrument cluster. Initially, only two engines were offered across the XJ40 models: a 2.9 litre and a 3.6 litre version of the AJ6 inline-six. The curvaceous lines of the outgoing Series XJ were replaced by the more angular, geometric shape of the XJ40. The nose of the car would accommodate either matched pairs of round headlights or rectangular single units; the latter were fitted to the higher-specification Sovereign and Daimler trim levels. The Sovereign model came equipped with significantly more features than the base XJ6. Included was air conditioning, headlamp washers, a six-speaker sound system, rear self-levelling suspension, anti-lock braking system and box inlaid burr walnut wood trim. This lovely Jaguar Sovereign has only had one owner from new, a Mr W. B. Johnson, who purchased it in February 1990 from Appleyard of Ayrshire. During his tenure he covered only 33,200 miles in the car and had it regularly serviced by Appleyard until 1997, and for the following two years he had the car serviced by the mechanic who had been looking after it at Appleyards. The last service was carried out on 19th May 1999 with the odometer reading 27,651 miles. The car has had little use since; the MoT history shows that it was not tested for some time as the oldest test is dated 31st July 2015 at 29,827 miles with the most recent certificate being issued on 4th August 2020 showing only 32,801 miles. Finished in Solent Blue with Doeskin leather piped in blue, the car is accompanied by the UK V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in August 2021, the handbook pack containing the owner’s manual, service book and a file with old MoT’s, and some correspondence between Jaguar and Mr. Johnson It is increasingly difficult to find good quality Jaguar XJ40’s and very rare to find such a low milage, one owner example such as this.
