The Bentley Continental R was launched at the Geneva motor show in 1991 and the styling of the handsome new coupe harked back to elegant lines of the S series Continental coupe's produced by Bentley motors throughout the 50's and 60's. The turbocharged 6.75 litre V8 engine was utilized and internally the car was similar to the Turbo R saloon. June 1996 saw the arrival of the new Continental T, a more powerful and sportier version of the Continental R which had a 4'' shorter wheelbase than the R and featured re-styled flared wheel arches, 18'' five spoke alloy wheels shod in low profile tires and a sports exhaust. Built for Bentley customers who desired additional performance over the Continental R, the new model boasted a 420bhp twin turbocharged and intercooled version of the 6750cc V8 engine governed by a Zytec digital engine management system. As one would expect, performance was very impressive with the big Bentley reaching 60 mph in under six seconds and on to a terminal velocity of almost 170mph. Bentley employed a number of upgrades inside the cabin which gave buyers the choice of turned aluminium or a mahogany dashboard and waist rails. The red engine start button paid homage to Bentley's famous racing history and the dynamic interior was finished with chrome bezels surrounding each individual gauge and drilled sports pedals. The Continental T was a low production car with a total of just over 300 motor cars rolling off the production line at Crewe between 1996 and 2002 and as such will be recognized in the future as an important part of modern day Bentley history. This righthand drive 1998 model Continental T is finished in Black Sapphire with Champagne hide interior, Black Sapphire piping, top roll and steering wheel centre. The lower portion of the dashboard, centre console, rear parcel shelf and headlining are finished in Champagne hide. An extremely well specified car from new that featured highly figured Burr Walnut, fully veneered door cappings, body coloured door mirror supports, body coloured headlamp surrounds, body coloured cheetah panels, seat switch surrounds in hide, dimple pattern to the seats and door arm rests and a diamond cut Matrix grille and mesh to the lower front spoiler and indicator extensions. The engine is the desirable and powerful 420bhp unit and has covered 46,000 miles. A comprehensive and full service history accompanies this car with regular services from HR Owen, JCT600 and Jack Barclay. The car has most recently benefitted from a major service by marque specialists Graeme Hunt Ltd in May 2010 which included the fitment of new brake accumulators and the car has travelled just 500 miles since. Originally ordered by a Crown Arab Prince and supplied by HR Owen in London, this fine example has been lovingly maintained throughout its life (as evidenced by the superb condition of the whole vehicle) and cost in the region of £250,000 new and is supplied with full history file and all owner's manuals & handbooks. When one considers the value of previous Bentley Continental coupés in today's marketplace, this sublime Continental T represents a fantastic long term investment for its new owner who would be hard pushed to find another in this condition and with this specification.
