A Collection of letters to Lillian Gish from H.L. Mencken and George Jean NathanComprising four typescript letters, signed, from H.L. Mencken, all dated 1928, one on Rice Hotel, Houston, Texas headed notepaper, the letter telling Gish 'I have just finished an automobile trip of 700 miles...it was a horrible trip, but relieved beautifully by a fine three-sheet of you in the remote town of Decatur, Ark...I hope you and your Mother like Berlin...George, by my reckoning, sails tomorrow...he has instructions to kiss your hand in my name...', 1 page, the other on Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen headed notepaper, telling Gish 'The voyage is comfortable and dull. The only passenger I know is Dudley Field Malone [prominent U.S. Attorney]. He is on his way to be married, and the bride is aboard - a lovely Swedish Gal...', 1 page; with two autograph letters from George Jean Nathan, 1920s, one on Club De France Et D'Angleterre headed notepaper, informing Gish 'If you still have doubts as to the seriousness of the Club De France Et D'Angleterre, run your finger over this elegant note paper and feel the engraving!', signed 'Votre GJN', 1 page; the other on headed notepaper with the top left corner and lower section missing. 11 x 8 3/4 in.
