GEERLOF VISBAGH (1643-1709), THE HAGUE, CIRCA 1680
A Dutch ebonised and ebony striking 'Haagse' clock Geerlof Visbagh (1643-1709), The Hague, circa 1680 The door with moulded break-arch cresting centred by a turned vase finial, flanked by half columns above a moulded plinth resting on bun feet, with concealed hinges and integral side-positioned catch operated with the winding key, the case with long glazed side panels within moulded frames supported by four bun feet, the interior with a later rear panel with rosewood and fruitwood star-shaped inlay, the hinged brown velvet lined dial applied with gilt-brass skeletonised Roman chapter ring with sword handle half hour markers, each chapter individually pinned to the dial, with cast gilt-brass foliate spandrels, pierced and engraved single hand, decorative brass collet to the winding hole, the probably eight to ten days movement with rectangular plates joined by four back-pinned baluster pillars, single barrel verge escapement with silk suspension and cycloidal cheeks, pierced back cock, with later countwheel and elaborate spring and detent, hour strike on bell above the case, the back plate signed Geerlof Visbagh/Fecit Hagae ; pendulum and winding key 48 cm. high
