The painting of the present lot is based on a European hunting scene. It was first fired at Jingdezhen and subsequently brought to Canton where it was later decorated for export to Europe. It stands as a fine example of porcelain produced for the maritime trade in the eighteenth century.
See a related famille rose punch bowl, 1750-1770, illustrated by J.Ayers, Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen: Volume II, London, 2016, Pl.1006, P.401. Compare with a related gilt-decorated famille rose 'European subject' punch bowl, Qianlong, which was sold at Bonhams Hong Kong, 9 October 2014, lot 38.
