A FINE CASED 16-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE BY THOMAS JACKSON, 29 EDWARDS ST. PORTMAN SQUARE, LONDON, SERIAL NO. 1138, CIRCA 1845 With browned twist barrels signed in full on the rib and each rifled with two grooves for a belted ball, bead fore-sight, rear-sight of one standing and two folding leaves graduated to 200 yards and each with platinum-inlaid centre-line, case-hardened patent breeches each engraved with roped borders and with a pierced platinum-plug, a tiger-mask engraved on the rib between, border, scroll and game scene engraved tang and signed bolted locks, the former decorated with a stag and the latter respectively with a recumbent stag and a running tiger, figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip and fore-end, raised cheek-piece, mounts engraved en suite including blued pistol-grip trigger-guard decorated with a running stag on the bow, silver escutcheon, and much original finish throughout, case-hardening faded, London proof marks, in original brass-cornered mahogany fitted case lined in tooled leather with some accessories including iron 'WD' pincer-type bullet mould for belted-ball marked 'IMPROVED NO.16', case-hardened mainspring clamp, and Sykes brass-mounted planished tin rifle-flask, the lid with Thomas Jackson trade label, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon and flush-fitting brass carrying-handle 30¼in. (76.8cm.) barrels
