A fine Chinese archaistic rhinoceros horn libation cup, 16th / 17th century. The horn of a mellow dark colour with a flared petal-shaped bowl with two key fret bands at the rim. The exterior carved in shallow relief with a central band of taotie and with an elaborate handle carved as two writhing chilong dragons, one which peers over the rim to which it clings with its front claws. Raised on a slightly flared foot, small rim chips, 8.7cm high, 13.3cm. wide, 192g weight. Provenance: the Alexander Collection, see lot 4 for details of William Alexander For a related example, cf.
