A fine early Victorian eight-day marine chronometer , the silvered dial signed John Carter Tooley Street, London No.183 , Roman chapters, up-and-down dial (at XII) inscribed 0-7, large diameter seconds dial with 5-second interval Arabic numerals and radial line decoration, gold hands, main frame assembly carrying reversed fusee barrel and centre wheel, the top-plate with extensive scroll engraving and signed John Carter Tooley Street, London No.183 , circular sub-frame assembly with Earnshaw escapement, brass and blued steel cut bi-metallic balance, segmental heat compensation weights, blued steel helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jewelled locking stone, in brass bowl with convex glass, in glazed brass-bound 3-tier mahogany box with external drop handles, inset white disc to front of middle section. 110 mm. dial diam.
