A GEORGE III RED AND GILT JAPANNED STRIKING EIGHT DAY TABLE CLOCK FOR THE TURKISH MARKET BENJAMIN BARBER, LONDON. CIRCA 1785 CASE: with brass handle to inverted bell top, glazed panels to the sides and wavy apron to the plinth, the interior surfaces partially cream-painted DIAL: brass dial with gilt-metal spandrels to silvered Turkish chapter ring, the centre painted with floral designs, also with date aperture and with recessed silvered signature reserve 'Benj. Barber/London', blued steel hands, the strike/silent ring to the arch also with painted centre MOVEMENT: with five pillars, twin line fusees, verge escapement and strike/trip repeat on bell, the back plate with open floral engraving around a crescent moon 18¾ in. (48 cm.) high, excluding handle; 10¾ in. (27.5 cm.) wide; 7 in. (18 cm.) deep
