A lacquered-brass binocular compound microscope Smith, Beck & Beck, 31 Cornhill, London. 19th Century Signed on the foot Smith, Beck & Beck 31 Cornhill London. and numbered 4417 , the binocular body-tube with rack and pinion eyepiece adjustment and rack and pinion focusing with micrometer fine adjustment, with mechanical stage, substage condensor and plano concave substage mirror, the main limb tilting on an axis above two turned brass pillars on a small rotating circular brass base, with three splayed feet on a mahogany base, with spare monocular body-tube and two spare eyepiece attachments, one with a large prism, in the original fitted mahogany carrying case with key and brass handle -- 19½in. (49.5cm.) high; also containing a fitted mahogany case of accessories including two eyepieces, Smith, Beck & Beck 1/8, , ¼, and 1in. objectives in brass canisters, a Powell 1½in. objective in a brass canister and 4in. objective in a brass canister, also with a large lieberkuhn attachment with screw-on brass cover, a curved reflector in a brass canister, various substage condensor attachments, tweezers, bull's-eye condensor and other items, including an unusual attachment taking the form of a twelve-sided brass column, every other face with four round knobs, each numbered on the adjoining face 1-24, screwing into a brass canister and with a small threaded hole in the base which fits over a rod in the canister, all in the fitted mahogany accessory case with two brass hooks and eyes 10½ in. (26.7 cm.) wide
