A large and important presentation model of the S.S. Normandie built for the French Line (CGT)
FRENCH; CIRCA 1935
A large and important presentation model of the S.S. Normandie built for the French Line (CGT) French; circa 1935 the hull is built up in wood and painted with a dual red bottom, black and white topsides, fitted with inset port holes and cut windows, ivory painted veneer decks with planking hand drawn in India ink. Deck details include: jack staff, anchors, anchor windlasses, cargo hatches, cargo booms, deck railings, masts with standing and running rigging, with crow's nest, built up decks with bridge and bridge wings, running lights, funnels painted in French Line (CGT) livery and detailed with foghorns, motor launches and life boats on brass davits, at the stern the deck is built up in tiers and detailed with wind baffles and a swimming pool. The model is displayed on four German silver pedestals on a acrylic base with cover. 21½ x 85 in. (54.6 x 215.9 cm.) model.
