THE FIRST WITH MARK OF ROBERT-JOSEPH AUGUSTE PARIS, 1781, THE SECOND UNMARKED, PROBABLY MADE TO MATCH IN PORTUGAL, LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY
A LOUIS XVI SILVER WINE-COOLER FROM THE DUKE DE CADAVAL SERVICE AND A MATCHING WINE-COOLER THE FIRST WITH MARK OF ROBERT-JOSEPH AUGUSTE PARIS, 1781, THE SECOND UNMARKED, PROBABLY MADE TO MATCH IN PORTUGAL, LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY Each cylindrical and on spreading reeded foot, the lower body chased with foliage band, applied below the rim with vacant medallions hung with fruiting grapevine swags, with two ram's mask handles and husk border, the first example engraved with a coat-of-arms, the first marked underneath, further marked on the rim with the décharge of Henry Clavel , each with 20th century silver-plated liner 9½ in. (24.5 cm.) high 161 oz. 17 dwt. (5,034 gr.) The arms on the first wine-cooler are those of Miguel Àlvares Pereira de Melo, 5th Duke of Cadaval (1765-1808) (2)
