A RARE FINELY CARVED LACQUER DISH MING DYNASTY, 16TH/17TH CENTURY Finely carved through the layers of black lacquer with a double-vajra medallion, encircled by a dense pattern of scrolling lotus flowers below evenly spaced Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang , each trailing ribbons to the sides, the well carved with ruyi -heads alternating with floral blossoms, the reverse with a band of composite flowers, the base applied with red lacquer 6¾ in. (17 cm.) diam., Japanese wood box
