A rare mid 18th-Century 4-draw shagreen-covered telescope, gilt-stamped and signed in manuscript by George Adams, dated 1752 -- 23.8cm. (9 3/8in.) long (closed) See Illustrations The telescope is made of pasteboard, the body-tube being covered with green shagreen and the draw tubes with unstained vellum. The tubes have brass mountings and the objective lens and eyepiece have sliding brass covers ( eyepiece lens missing ). The ends of each draw-tube have decorative gold tooling, the smaller two with manuscript graduations in black ink and the largest gilt-stamped G.ADAMS. FLEET-STREET LONDON. .
