The ruby-red enamel was first created during the late years of the Kangxi reign, and was one of the favourites of the Imperial household. It is also known as 'Western red' 洋紅 (yanghong) because the pigment was imported from the West. Compare with a similarly-shaped vase, Qianlong, in the collection of the British Museum, London, (acc.no.Franks.477.+). Compare with a related ruby-red enamelled vase, Yongzheng, which was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 25 May 2022, lot 505.
