A VERY RARE INDIAN HORSE ARMOUR OF HARDENED HIDE LAMELLAE WITH PADDED PRINTED FABRIC 18 t h Century Formed of eight parts, comprising a pair of large flank-pieces shaped for the saddle and extending over the rump, breast defence of two parts joined by straps below the neck, triangular head defence fitted with a pair of pendant cheeks cut out over the eyes, and narrow triangular tail defence, constructed of very narrow imbricated strips of hide with invected edges and retained by stitching, lined in padded fabric printed with a yellow, green and brown lozenge pattern of fleur-de-lys and conventional flowerheads, with soft leather borders, the flanks partly edged in red fabric en suite with the breast defences, the greater part edged in purple, green and yellow striped fabric, and with later straps and buckles throughout (patches of wear, staining and minor refurbishment).
