(7 3/4 x 10 in.), slightly browned, otherwise in fine condition. ADAMS'S EULOGY ON MONROE This letter displays John Quincy Adams' considerable talent for writing pleasant, eloquent personal letters, a talent which, according to Theodore Parker [American clergyman], emerged late in life. "Your request for a copy of the Eulogy upon the Life and character of James Madison delivered by me before the City Government of Boston, is made upon motives so kind and for reasons so flattering to me, that I regret my inability to furnish you with a copy in any other form than as it has been republished in the National Intelligencer of this City[.] Of the pamphlet copies, published by The City Government, the number was I believe small, and has been exhausted. There are corrections of some slight errors, in the republications, which make it in some respects more accurate than the pamphlet edition." Adams and Monroe had been friends as well as political allies; in fact, Monroe, as President, had appointed Adams Minister to Russia.
