Mild spine stress, nicks and mild crimping to right edge of front cover, mild staple pull, sun shadow to open edge of back cover, small distributor's mark in blue ballpoint ink to sidebar of front cover. Off-white pages, cream edges. Cover: Sol Brodsky. Art: Bill Benulis, Sid Greene?, Russ Heath, Chuck Winter, Mac Pakula. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. Most recent sale is a 5.5 that sold for $700 in 2/23. #28: VG- (3.5). Cover: Carl Burgos. Art: Joe Sinnott, Gene Colan, Al Eadeh, Myron Fass, John Forte. GPAnalysis: A 3.5 sold for $82 in 6/21. Shrunken heads; hanging panel; horse thief menaced by giant Nubian; werewolf shanked with wooden stake; apocalyptic ad advising hell-bound kids to earn fun prizes selling religious tracts before God lowers the boom. Another ad pushes “Polio Precautions” (“DON’T mix with new groups, DON’T get overtired, DON’T get chilled, BUT DO keep clean”). Comic books and newspapers, with their porous pages, were thought by many to harbor polio germs, resulting in thousands of comics being burned in the interests of public health. "Daddy and Mama took everything Sonny owned, all of his clothes, his bed, his chest of drawers, and he had a fabulous comic book collection... They made a pile and burned everything he owned." — American Experience: The Polio Crusade. Aired by PBS on June 15, 2021. A limited edition of ten hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a few dozen softcovers. Fun reference, great keepsake, fully illustrated, chockablock with obscure facts, gags, bon mots.
