AN IMPRESSIVE PAIR OF GOLD DAMASCENED FORGED IRON 'ALHAMBRA' VASES
MADE FOR DOCTOR AVELINO GUTIERREZ, TOLEDO, SPAIN, DATED 16 NOVEMBER 1910
AN IMPRESSIVE PAIR OF GOLD DAMASCENED FORGED IRON 'ALHAMBRA' VASES MADE FOR DOCTOR AVELINO GUTIERREZ, TOLEDO, SPAIN, DATED 16 NOVEMBER 1910 In Nasrid style, each of the vases rising from trumpet foot through drop-shaped body to cylindrical neck flaring at rim, with two handles cusped to the inside linking the shoulder and mouth, the surface heavily decorated in gold damascening with extremely elegant leafy arabesques and palmettes sometimes in gold reserved against the iron ground and sometimes reserved against a gold ground, the body of each vase with a central band of cusped inscription cartouches linked by smaller cusped cartouches, minor bands below this with inscription in Spanish, overall good condition Each 20in. (50.8cm.) high (2)
